One of the best zoos in the world, it houses a great variety of creatures from all over. The San Diego Zoo (opened in 1916) is one of the top ten largest zoos in the world and one of the top five best zoos in the United States. This zoo has many exhibits that are great for the whole family and is a must see for animal lovers. Over 3,700 animals and over 650 species (including exotic birds, reptiles, big cats, bears, and much more). Home to endangered species such as tigers, pandas, polar bears, elephants, and more. This zoo features a diversity of environments and exhibits that are complete replicas of the animal's natural habitats.

Cool down at Seaworld San Diego where you can find fun rides, great shows, and numerous marine life exhibits. SeaWorld is an oceanarium and theme park that is open all year long and goes as far back as 1964. This park has added a diversity of marine life and other animal species, along with a number of attractions and rollercoasters, which has attracted several millions of visitors in the past years. SeaWorld is a great opportunity to see some aquatic life all while having tons of fun. Seaworld includes animals such as killer whales, dolphins, sharks, penguins, and much more! It has shows such as the Shamu Stadium shows and the Otter shows and rides like Journey to Atlantis and the Manta.

Another great wildlife preserve with tons of animals to see, tours to take, and botanical gardens. Part of the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Safari Park (opened in 1972) is one of the best safari parks in the United States. With about 1,800 acres, the park is huge and offers much to see and do there. While it is mostly African-themed, there are a good number of other environments to enjoy. Over 2,600 animals and over 300 species. Tours are available, including a tram ride through the massive African savannah in the park. Along with animals, there are large and separate botanical gardens. The park also offers areas for the kids like the Savanna Cool Zone and the Samburu Jungle Gym.

A nice aquarium with several aquatic life forms, you'll want to slow down for this one and take it all in. Originally a marine biology lab opened in 1903, the Birch Aquarium is one of the best places to visit for those interested in marine life. The aquarium is home to several different aquatic life-forms of the Pacific Ocean and even includes public programs such as snorkeling, whale watching, and more. Over 3,000 animals and approximately 380 species. Along with the main aquarium hall, there are tide pools, a shark reef, and sea horse exhibit. The hilltop site provides great views of the Pacific Ocean and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus.

The hub of San Diego, Downtown features its own smaller attractions and a very lively nightlife. At the center of San Diego County, there is Downtown, founded in 1850. You may find yourself passing through Downtown if you are trying to get to one of the attractions in San Diego, but know this, Downtown itself can be an attraction. It is a business and cultural center which features arts, impressive architecture, and a famous nightlife scene. There are nine districts, including the Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy. They feature artistic attractions like the Civic Theatre and the Museum of Contemporary Art. You will find impressive buildings such as the San Diego Convention Center which hosts various events throughout the year. You can also catch a Major League Baseball game at Petco Park Stadium home of the San Diego Padres.

An old naval aircraft carrier turned museum that provides a great opportunity to take a look at military history. The USS Midway is a large aircraft carrier which served from 1945 to 1992, and currently it is used as a maritime museum. This ship is the most popular naval warship in the entire United States. If you want a look into the sailor lifestyle and military history, than be sure to check out the USS Midway. You will experience a self-guided audio tour featuring the voices of former Midway sailors. There are more than sixty locations to visit, including the engine room, flight control, and brig. There are also plenty of activities for children, such as flight simulators, videos, and more.
